Summer to ServeDickinson Youth Action Council to Host First "Youth Summer to Serve Kick-off Party" to Connect our Youth to Community Service Opportunities in the City

Dickinson, Texas - The Dickinson Youth Action Council (DYAC) is thrilled to announce its first annual "Youth Summer to Serve Kick-off Party" to be held on Friday, June 2nd, from 5p - 8p at the City's Historic Railroad Museum and Depot. The event is geared towards young adults in the area and aims to connect them with various volunteer opportunities to give back to their community throughout the summer.

DYAC's mission is to build a culture of active citizenship within the local community through pillars of service-learning, action civics, and youth-led advising to provide robust representation for the youth of Dickinson. The Youth Summer to Serve Kick-off Party is one of the ways DYAC hopes to encourage young people to engage with their community and become active citizens.

At the event, representatives from different service organizations will be available to talk to students and sign them up for various opportunities to serve their community. Attendees will also enjoy live music by Obsolete August, a corn hole tournament, a 360-degree photo booth, door prizes, a gator spirit face painting station, and more!

"As the liaison between City Council and the Dickinson Youth Action Council, I am thrilled to see DYAC hosting its first big event," said City Councilwoman Jenna Simsen. "This event will serve as a fantastic opportunity for our young adults to learn about the importance of being involved in the community in which you live. I am proud of the work that the DYAC is doing to provide robust representation for the youth of Dickinson and to encourage their engagement in local issues."

Registration for the event will be limited to the first 225 students to sign up. If you are signing up on behalf of a student, please register them by the name that matches their photo identification. Students will be allowed to bring family members with them; however, only the student themselves need to register for a ticket.

"We are thrilled to support the Dickinson Youth Action Council in their efforts to cultivate active citizenship and encourage our youth to get involved in serving our community," said Mayor Sean Skipworth. "We look forward to seeing the positive impact that these young people will make in our community for years to come.”
